...is a jacket that, like a sports jacket, is worn with trousers of a different fabric or colour, as opposed to a suit. A blazer differs from a sports jacket in that it is made of fabric without a particular texture. Blazers come in many different colours, and certain sports clubs and schools have blazers with coloured stripes, which can be called boating blazers. A blazer is more formal than a sports jacket but less so than suit jackets.[1]

The buttons on a blazer are in a contrasting colour to the fabric and are often made of metal such as brass or gilt, reflecting their origin as naval uniform jackets and as a type of jacket. The metal buttons can have decorations such as anchors or club logos and the like. The buttons can also be made of mother-of-pearl. Traditionally, the blazer is double-breasted (two rows of buttons), but single-breasted blazers are popular. A blazer often has side pockets without flaps and a club logo or similar embroidered on the breast pocket.

Blazers are often used as part of uniforms for, among others, airline captains, students at specific schools, members of sports clubs, or athletes from a particular team.
